REBECCA RANASEKARA

Child Advocacy Coordinator

Rebecca Ranasekara was born in Herford, Germany, and obtained her post-primary education from Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda.

She received her degree in Social Work from the National Institute of Social Development (NISD) in Seeduwa, and has specialised in Persons with Disabilities. She joined ECPAT/PEaCE in May 2024 as a Child Advocacy Coordinator. Before this, Rebecca worked as the Outreach Coordinator for the National HIV Prevention Program and her prime focus was the well-being of Female Sex Workers (FSW) in the Gampaha district. As the Outreach Coordinator of the FSW component, she oversaw project implementation, trained outreach workers, liaised with stakeholders, and provided HIV/AIDS testing and counselling for the target community. 

She also served as a Disability Accessibility Audit Project Assistant at the Specialized Training and Disability Resource Center, Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, Rajagiriya, conducting district-level accessibility audits in various local government authorities while assisting in recommending modifications. Additionally, she has also worked as a Human Rights Research Assistant at the Center for Society and Religion, Maradana, researching and documenting various human rights violations in Sri Lanka. 

Rebecca has developed a diverse skill set including advocacy, needs assessment, disability rights and inclusion, problem-solving, and building professional rapport. Her technical skills encompass computer literacy, project management, and social media proficiency. She is fluent in Sinhala and English and is currently learning Tamil and German. In her leisure time, she enjoys, reading books, and listening to music.
