Ms. de Soysa began her career as a reporter for two national newspapers in the English medium, the Sun and the Island. She went on to join Reuters News Agency as the Sri Lanka correspondent, where she covered political and economic issues as well as feature human interest stories.

Ms. de Soysa worked as a political affairs specialist for two years at the US Embassy in Colombo. She moved to the United States, where she worked and volunteered for organizations that helped women and children. Upon her return to Sri Lanka, Ms. de Soysa worked as the Asian Regional Communications Manager for Muslim Aid Sri Lanka.

Currently, she is an editor and writer at Groundviews: Journalism for Citizens.

Ms. de Soysa has a Master of Arts from New York University.
