Training Programme for School Prinicpals from the Western Province

On 6th June, the training session on "Child Safeguarding in the Digital Environment" was conducted in collaboration with the Distance Learning Centre (DLC) in Colombo 7. This session targeted school officials, specifically principals from schools across the Western Province. A total of 32 principals participated in the training. Participants learned about the various forms of online abuse and exploitation, as well as strategies to safeguard students.

PEaCE/ECPAT Sri Lanka sought out school principals to ensure the implementation of proactive measures against digital child abuse at least by way of educating them via a program such as this. The session highlighted the need to understand online abuse and to distinguish it from physical abuse. The PEaCE/ECPAT Resource Person covered Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA), discussing seven components which were cyberbullying, online grooming, child sexual abuse material, sexting, sextortion, revenge porn and livestreaming.
