Ethical Journalism Training for Journalists from the Eastern Province

Ethical Journalism Training for Journalists from the Eastern Province

PEaCE has conducted an impactful training programme for 30 journalists based in Batticaloa, along with participants from neighbouring Ampara and Trincomalee. This initiative aimed to address a critical need for sensitive and responsible reporting on child abuse—a complex issue that demands a careful and informed approach from media professionals. The programme focused on equipping journalists with essential skills for accurate reporting on child abuse cases, with particular emphasis on navigating the ethical considerations and challenges they face in this area.

Journalists learned to balance the urgency of news with respect for victims’ privacy and dignity, ensuring that stories are both informative and sensitive to the affected individuals and communities. Through this training, PEaCE sought to empower journalists with tools that enable them to report effectively, fostering a more compassionate and well-informed community response. As these journalists bring this knowledge to their work, their stories can play a crucial role in shaping public understanding and encouraging action on child protection issues.
