Awareness Programmes – December 2021

The month of December was eventful for PEaCE with several awareness programs. Despite the continuing pandemic situation, PEaCE was able to resume its awareness programmes while abiding by the government-imposed safety precautions. The programmes were of immense success that requests were received by PEaCE to conduct more programs for different stakeholders by various officials as well.

The awareness programs in the month of December are as follows.

8th December – Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse: Awareness programme for Pre-School teachers – Kaduwela Divisional Secretariat.

An awareness programme on Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA) was conducted on the 8th of December. The targeted audience were preschool teachers and more than 30 preschool teachers participated in this Programme. It was organized in collaboration with the Child Rights Promotion Officer (CRPO) of the Kaduwela Division and was held at the Kaduwela Divisional Secretariat.

10th December – Awareness Programme for students on OCSEA

An awareness program on Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse was held on the 10th of December, targeting school children. The participants were the students of St Anthony’s Girls’ School in Modara who were aged between 14 to 18. The teachers and two female police officers of the Modara Division were also present at the occasion. The programme was organized by the Child Rights Promotion Officer (CRPO) of the Colombo Division and the school staff and it was held at the school auditorium.

12th December – Awareness programme for the Dhamma School (Sunday School)students.

On the 12th of December, an awareness programme was held for students of Poorvaaramaya Dhamma School in Dam Street, Colombo. The participants were students aged 7 to 18 as well as the Dhamma School teachers and parents of the students. The chief monk of the Poorvaaramaya temple was also present at the occasion. The programme was organized by the Child Rights Promotion Officer of the Colombo Division and the teachers of the Dhamma school.

14th December – Awareness Programme for school children – Nuraichcholai

An awareness programme on Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse was held at Nurochcholai Muslim Maha Vidyalaya in the Puttalam District on the 14th of December. About 100 students aged between 15 to 17 were present at the occasion. The programme was organized by the School Management Committee and In-Service Advisors of the Kalpity Zonal Education Department.

16th December – Awareness programme for school students Kotikawatte, Colombo

On the 16th of December, an awareness programme on Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse was held in Kotikawatte. It was held at the Somadevi Balika Vidyalaya in Kotikawatta, with the participation of more than 100 students aged 14 to 16 as well as teachers of the school. The programme was organized by the Child Rights Promotion Officer of the Kolonnawa Division and the teachers of the school. The Additional Divisional Secretary of Kolonnawa was also present at the occasion.
